The Benefits of Acupuncture for Lower Back Pain Management

If you experience lower back pain, you are not the only one. About 80 percent of adults will experience low back pain at some stage in their life. It is the leading cause of job-related disability and one of the most common reasons for missed work days. In a survey, more than 25% of adults reported experiencing low back pain during the past 3 months.

People always say to me, “Well I believe in acupuncture; it will work”. I have to say a positive attitude is always welcomed but acupuncture “works” regardless if we believe in it or not. There are many reasons why acupuncture works but one main is this.

What Does Acupuncture Do?

Brain functions are regulated by chemical messengers. Studies show that acupuncture, when applied to certain acupuncture points, can facilitate the release of specific neuropeptides which in turn elicit profound physiological effects and affect the self-healing mechanisms of the body.

The Mayo Clinic and their researchers also found that acupuncture helps with/stimulates/does;
• decreasing stress-related hormones
• increasing various regeneration-enhancing molecules
• stimulating blood flow to the injury area
• Releasing neuroprotective, endorphin-like molecules.
• Creating new tissue/muscle/tendon/ligaments/bone
• Increase the function of Organ systems
• releases enkephalins, which are the body’s natural opioids, and about 1000 times more powerful than a histamine drug (such as oxycontin)

It’s just not acupuncturists that suggest acupuncture for your back pain but Western Medical doctors themselves! Doctors refer, use, and suggest acupuncture! 191 out of 197 (97%) responders consider acupuncture to be an effective or very effective treatment modality in pain management.

Research into acupuncture as a medical treatment has grown exponentially in the past 20 years, 13,000 studies conducted in 60 countries, including hundreds of meta-analyses summarizing the results of thousands of human and animal studies.

WHO (World Health Organization) has stated: “Our study found evidence for the effectiveness of acupuncture for 117 conditions…” The US Military uses acupuncture for chronic and acute pain. Acupuncture is extremely effective for low back pain that is the result of a tendon, muscle, ligament, bone, and disc bulges.

Chronic Low Back Pain

I find in my clinical experience of over 13 years that chronic low back pain responds the absolute best to acupuncture. I treat both acute low back pain and chronic low back pain with not only acupuncture but also Infra Red heat lamp, cupping, and even herbal therapies. We are so much more than just acupuncture needles.

I hear from patients that they “just have to live it” This is not true nor acceptable. We have many tools and modalities to heal your back pain. I also hear that “I have tried everything, and nothing helped” I have a unique style of acupuncture that is second to none when it comes to clinical effectiveness.

Patients have told me “Cathy, I have had this before and it always goes away”. This is great in the short term but in the long term? There is a serious issue that these flare-ups keep showing up. I always figure out the best to treat patients, so their pain doesn’t come back.

By far the most common statement I hear from all my patients is, “Cathy, why didn’t I do this 6 months ago, I feel amazing” Living with pain is horrible and causes loss of time at work and loss of time with your children or loved ones. Back pain, in particular, chronic low back pain, chronic muscle pain, lower back pain all can be resolved quickly, easily, predictably with acupuncture points and other therapies at Yin Studio
